Accessibility Statement — Break-Glass Access / Noodtoegang

1 — Our commitment to accessibility

We believe everyone should be able to use our websites, including people who browse the web with a disability — for example using a screen reader, a keyboard only, enlarged text or high contrast. Accessibility is not an afterthought for us, but a fixed requirement when we design, build and maintain our websites.

We actively aim for breakglassaccess.com and noodtoegang.nl to meet the international guideline WCAG 2.2, conformance level AA, and the related European standard EN 301 549.

2 — Which websites this statement covers

This statement applies to our public, informational websites:

• breakglassaccess.com (English);
• noodtoegang.nl (Dutch).

Outside this statement are parts we do not manage ourselves or that follow their own accessibility approach, such as the checkout and account environment of our sales partner (e.g. Freemius) and the WordPress plugin itself. We do our best there too, but we are partly dependent on third parties.

3 — Conformance status (WCAG 2.2, level AA)

The websites are built to meet WCAG 2.2, level AA. Based on our own assessment (see section 7), the websites are largely conformant with level AA.

"Largely conformant" means that most success criteria are met and that the remaining points are minor and non-blocking. We name those points openly and honestly in section 5. We are actively working to resolve them and reach full conformance.

4 — What we examined and improved

We reviewed every page in both languages and fixed the issues we found. The main measures:

1. Colour contrast. All body text, labels, table headers, captions and buttons meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 (large text 3:1). We darkened light-grey shades and adjusted a coloured badge so they meet the standard.
2. Meaning not conveyed by colour alone. We deliberately use red and teal (not red and green), and check marks whose shape carries the meaning. That keeps information clear for colour-blind visitors too.
3. Logical heading structure. Every page has one clear main heading (H1) and a hierarchy that does not skip levels (H1 → H2 → H3), so the structure is easy to follow — including for a screen reader.
4. Landmarks. Every page has recognisable regions (header, main content, navigation, footer), so assistive software can jump straight to the right part.
5. Correct language setting. Every page passes the correct language (Dutch or English) to assistive software, so a screen reader pronounces the content correctly.
6. Text alternatives. Informative images have a text alternative; purely decorative images are marked as decorative so a screen reader skips them.
7. Responsive and zoomable. The pages work on small and large screens and stay readable and usable when you zoom in or enlarge the text.
8. Keyboard and visible focus. Interactive elements can be reached and operated with the keyboard, and the position of the focus is visible.
9. Clear language and link text. We write calmly and at an understandable level, with link text that makes clear where it leads.

5 — Known limitations and exceptions

We are honest about this: a few points are not yet fully resolved or fall outside our direct control.

1. Decorative rating stars. Some page headers show gold stars on a red background. Their colour contrast is lower (about 3.4:1). They are purely decorative and the meaning is in the adjacent text; as a non-text element they meet the standard (3:1). We are considering improving them further.
2. Third-party content. Screens and forms from third parties (such as our sales partner's checkout) are outside our direct control. We deliberately choose partners that take accessibility seriously.
3. Linking of language versions. The technical link between the Dutch and English versions (for the language switch) is still being finalised.
4. Additional audit planned. In addition to our own assessment, we plan a further check with an external accessibility test and a manual test using a screen reader and keyboard, to confirm the level.

6 — Technical specifications and compatibility

The accessibility of the websites relies on the following technologies, in combination with the web browser and any assistive technology:

• HTML;
• CSS;
• JavaScript.

The websites are designed to work with common, up-to-date browsers and with widely used assistive technology, such as screen readers and keyboard-only operation. For the best experience we recommend an up-to-date browser.

7 — How we prepared this statement

This statement was prepared on 4 July 2026 on the basis of a self-assessment. We checked every page in both languages — automatically and manually — for colour contrast, heading structure, landmarks, language setting, text alternatives, responsive behaviour and keyboard operation, tested against WCAG 2.2, level AA.

Points found were fixed immediately; the remaining points are listed in section 5. We review this statement at least once a year and after significant changes to the websites.

9 — Enforcement, complaints and legal framework

Digital accessibility in Europe is governed by, among others, the Web Accessibility Directive (for public-sector bodies) and the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which applies from 28 June 2025 to certain products and services. As our guideline we use WCAG 2.2, level AA (EN 301 549).
